When anyone hurt you, what thought comes to your mind immediately? Pay back the person in his own coin. That is not what God expect us to do. Most of the time, we do the opposite of what God want us to do. Really, it is not easy to pay evil with love but with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can do it because we will no longer look at the person as an enemy but rather as friend and elevator. We should try to put on the garment of love not revenge because vengeance is for the Lord.

Repay no evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath, for it is written, vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord. Therefore if your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink, for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good – Romans 12 : 17 – 21.

A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger – Proverbs 15 : 1.

For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect – Matthew 5 : 46 – 48.

Most of the times, evil did of people is always an elevator to a more higher level in life. A case study is that of Joseph when his own blood brothers sold him out just because of jealousy over his dream. Joseph never had evil thought against his brothers and that was while the scripture says that the Lord was with Joseph even in prison. After their father’s death, his brothers became very afraid of him because evil will always bring fear to the doer. But on the other hand, Joseph, whom they have hurt had peace in his mind because the word of God cannot lie. Joseph heap coals of fire on the head of his brothers. When they meant evil, but God transformed their evil did into promotion for Joseph because of his kind heart. Let’s see what the bible says about this.

When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, perhaps Joseph will hate us and may actually repay us for all the evil which we did to him. So they sent messengers to Joseph, saying, before your father died he commanded, saying, Thus you shall say to Joseph, I beg you, please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin, for they did evil to you. Now, please forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father. And Joseph wept when they spoke to him. Then his brothers also went and fell down before his face and they said, behold, we are your servants. Joseph said to them, do not be afraid, for I am in the place of God? But as for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. Now therefore, do not be afraid, I will provide for you and your little ones. And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them – Genesis 50 : 15 – 21.

What a touching story. One might say what if he had died during the course of slavery? Brethren, the God we serve is a God that can make even your enemy become your friend and He will light up your pathways if you have a kind heart. He is ready to fulfill His plane for your life if you allow Him to fight your battle when He deemed it fit.

Father, You are a great warrior who never loose in any battle. Help us to rely on You in any battle that confront us in every area of our lives. Give us a kind heart to see any evil that is being to us as an elevator instead of a problem in Jesus Christ’s  name.
