Now the Lord said to Samuel, how long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go, I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons. And Samuel said, how can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me. But the Lord said, take a heifer with you and say, I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice and I will show you what you shall do, you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you – 1 Samuel 16 1 – 3.
God sent Samuel a message and he was afraid. But when he opened up to the Lord by saying the truth, the Lord has to give him a clue on how to go about the errand without trying to prove his holiness to God, the Lord empower him and it does not mean that Samuel try to disobey God but rather he say what he feel. Brethren, we need to say the truth always. If you are afraid to go on any message God want you to deliver, make it know Him your fear and stop trying to be religious. Whatever you feel, handover it to Him and He will reconstruct, remold, rearrange and reprogram you because He created you and you will be refresh.
People might say, why did God told Samuel to say that he has come to sacrifice? Well, I think in every situation, God want us to use our wisdom in anything we are doing. After hearing that, Samuel became bold as a lion without fear.
So Samuel did what the Lord said and went to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming and said, do you come peaceably? And he said, peaceably, I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Sanctify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice. Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. So it was, when they came, that he looked at Eliab and said, surely the Lord’s anointed is before Him. But the Lord said to Samuel, do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
So Jesse called Abinadab and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, neither has the Lord chosen this one. Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said neither has the Lord chosen this one. Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, the Lord has not chosen these – 1 Samuel 16 4 – 10.
I thank God Almighty for not being a parcial God if not we will be carried away with what we see with our physical eyes. No matter the level you might be in the society, in your family, in a group, in your class or the number of people that has gone ahead of you, your blessing or anointing can never be taken from you. The devil can only delay it but you can never be denied of it as the common saying goes ”delay is not denial”. The only thing we have to do is to stay focus on the Creator who has created you and place those things in you who is going to bring it to physical manifestation at the right time.
And Samuel said to Jesse, are all the young men here? Then he said, there remains yet the youngest and there he is keeping the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here. So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes and good looking. And the Lord said, arise, anoint him for this is the one. Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah – 1 Samuel 16 . 11 – 13.
What a mighty God we serve! David was not recognize at the initial stage of the anointing process. He was not even remembered. Jesse gave birth to a king and was living with a king unknowingly to him. David was the youngest among his brothers. God that reveal the secret, I thank You. We should value everybody God has brought into our lives in the same way whether as children, brothers, sisters, church members, friends, neighbors, co-workers, classmates, club members etc because you don’t know the purpose God brought both of you together. Samuel said, ”for we will not sit down till he comes here”. Spiritual things has to be handle in a Spiritual way.
I believe we should not value anybody because of his position in the society, because of his physical stature, because of what he has achieve, because of his technical know-how, because of his wealth, because of his influence, because of his experience, because of age but rather with the same value God has place in us.
Father, I thank You for Whom You are – a Great and Merciful God. Help me to value those You have place in my life because they are all there for a purpose so that, that purpose will be fulfill in my life and in their lives in Jesus name.
