Now Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. And Moab was exceedingly afraid of the people because they were many and Moab was sick with dread because of the children of Israel. So moab said to the elders of Midian, now this company will lick up everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at the time  – Numbers 22 : 2 – 4.

God so created us so well to the extent that even without speaking to our enemies, when they see us, they will be trembling. Our presence will bring fear to our enemies. Israel did not know what was happening but God knew because He love him. That is why the scripture says that, ”The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion” – Proverbs 28 : 1.

Then he sent messengers to Balaak the son of Beor at Pethor, which is near the river in the land of the sons of his people, to call him, saying, look, a people has come from Egypt. See, they cover the face of the earth and are settling next to me. Therefore please come at once, curse this people for me, for they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land, for I know that he whom you bless is blessed and he whom you curse is cursed. So the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the diviner’s fee in their hand and they came to Balaam and spoke to him the words of Balak. And he said to them, lodge here tonight and I will bring back word to you as the Lord speaks to me. So the princes of Moab stayed with Balaam –  Numbers 22 : 5 – 8.

Balak knew that Balaam was serving a fearful and wonderful God who hears the cry of His children. Balaam did not want to jump to answer the call because God has not spoken to him and he knew that it was very important to hear from Him before he do anything. At times we jump to take decisions without seeking the face of God over such decision or decisions we are taking. We feel He is not interested in some areas of our lives or we feel somethings are too small to be presented to Him. Brethren, ”the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore, you are of more value than many sparrows” – Matthew 10 : 30 – 31 and Luke 12 : 7. He said, ”come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest” – Matthew 11 : 28. He is not calling only the pastors, only the preachers, only the church workers, only the ushers but rather He is calling ALL without exception of anybody. Balaam knew this rule that was why he decided to seek God’s face before he go to Balak.

Then God came to Balaam and said, who are these men with you? So Balaam said to God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent to me, saying, look, a people has  come out of Egypt and they cover the face of the earth. Come now, curse them for me, perhaps I shall be able to overpower them and drive them out – Numbers 22 : 9 – 11.

God’s protection will always be on His children because of His love and grace is over them. Before Balaam could even go to Him, He came first to him and asked about the visitors in his house because He was interested not only in the lives of the Israelite but also in the life of Balaam. We should allow God to be interested in our issues by going close to Him. No matter how great that unseen battle you are facing might be, ”He will fight your battle and you shall hold your peace” – Exodus 14 : 14.

And God said to Balaam, you shall not go with them, you shall not curse the people for they are blessed. So Balaam rose in the morning and said to the princes of Balak, go back to your land for the Lord has refused to give me permission to go with you. And princes of Moab rose and went to Balak and said, Balaam refuses to come with us. Then Balak again sent princes, more numerous and more honorable than they. And they came to Balaam and said to him, thus says Balak the son of Zippor, please let nothing hinder you from coming to me, for I will certainly honor you greatly and I will do whatever you say to me. Therefore please come, curse this people for me.

Then Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, though Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the word of the Lord my God, to do less or more. Now therefore, please you also stay here tonight, that I may know what more the Lord will say to me. And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, if the men come to you, rise and go with them, but only the word which I speak to you that you shall do. So Balaam rose in the morning, saddled his donkey and went with the princes of Moab – Numbers 22 : 12 – 21.

The Lord is ever ready to protect His own at every moment that is why the scripture says,”you shall be My people and I will be your God” – Jeremiah 30 : 22. Before the Israelite came into the scene, God has never forbid Balaam from praying against anyone, but because Israelite was His people so He has to protect them also Balaam because if Balaam has gone with the messengers without consulting God, he would have died because the bible says, ”no one can curse whom the Lord has blessed” – Numbers 23 : 8.

The Israelite might not know that God was settling issues on their behalf, it is still the same way that He is fighting for us today whether we like it or not because you are not the one that choose Him but rather He choose you so He will have to protect you because you are precious to Him. No matter how inferior you might think you are, God has placed a great value on you so continue to see yourself as a precious one of God whom He value most.

Father, let Your name be glorified and exalted. Give the grace to obey Your voice not matter how difficult the situation might be in Jesus name.
