Please say you are my sister, that it may be well with me for my sake and that I may live because of you. So it was, when Abram came into Egypt, that the Egyptians saw the woman, that she was very beautiful. The princes of Pharaoh also saw her and commended her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken to Pharaoh’s house. He treated Abram well for her sake. He had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male and female servants, female donkeys and camels. But the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife – Genesis 12 : 13 – 17.

Although Abram lied that his wife was his sister, though she was, God was not annoyed with him because He knew that he applied wisdom. Same way God will be very happy with us anytime we apply wisdom in any decision we are taking. Neither was Sarai annoyed why must he deny her. When we allow God to be our leader, everything concerning us will be taken good care of. God protected Abram’s wife for him. Despite the fact that Pharaoh did not know Abram but God made him to know that Abram and anything that belong to him are untouchable. Same way God is ready to protect anything that belongs to us if we give Him the chance to lead us and He will surely light up our part-ways with His love and the protection we need.

Brethren, God can cause sickness on our enemies so that they should know that we are good children to Him when He sees that they are too strong for our strength. Abram might have really be a dead man should in case he said that Sarai was his wife. Everything became easy when Abram’s strength could not take the load and he allowed God to help him.

And Pharaoh called Abram and said, what is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? Why did you say, she is my sister? I might have taken her as my wife. Now therefore, here is your wife, take her and go your way. So Pharaoh commended his men concerning him and they sent him away with his wife and all that he had – Genesis 12 : 18 – 20.

Pharaoh could not bear the plague anymore, he has to settle the issue with Abram so that himself and his house should not perish. We should not always forget to hand over our daily activities to God because He is and will always be a Good Father who loves the welfare of His children.

And Abraham journeyed from there to the south and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur and stayed in Gerar. Now Abraham said of Sarah his wife, she is my sister and Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah. But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said to him, indeed you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife. But Abimelech had not come near her and he said, Lord will You slay a righteous nation also? Did he not say to me, she is my sister? And she, even she herself said, he is my brother. In the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands I have done this.

And God said to him in a dream, yes, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart. For I also withheld you from sinning against Me, therefore I did not let you touch her. Now therefore, restore the man’s wife, for he is a prophet and he will pray for you and you shall live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours – Genesis 20 : 1 – 7.

In this case, God has to make Abimelech  know that Abraham was a prophet. God knows when and how to fight for us. Abraham sinned by telling lie but God did not remove the prophet statute from him. How many times have we allowed our actions and thinking to take us away from the presence of God. He is not interested in our error but rather He is interested in our obedience. We should stop judging ourselves and leave judgment to God. He want us to be dependent completely on Him in every area of our lives. We should not try to depend on our intelligence because it cannot take us to anywhere without Him. The scripture says that, ”….for the battle is not yours but God’s – 2 Chronicles 20: 15”.

So Abimelech rose early in the morning, called all his servants and told all these things in their hearing and the men were very much afraid. And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, what have you done to us? How have I offended you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done. Then Abimelech said to Abraham, what did you have in view, that you have done this thing? And Abraham said, because I thought, surely the fear of God is not in this place and they will kill me on account of my wife. But indeed she is truly my sister. She is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother and she became my wife. And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said to her this is your kindness that you should do for me, in every place, wherever we go, say of me, he is my brother. – Genesis 20 : 8 – 13.

We don’t  have to fight for what we have. God has given us freedom but at times our ignorance make us to forget that the Lord has made us free and we need to exercise that freedom anywhere we go because we are not alone. Abraham did not speak but Abimelech spoke to his people what God has said concerning Abraham and fear gripped his people. The bible says that, ”…..we are fearfully and wonderfully made – Psalm 139 :14”, so our enemy will see us and be afraid of us.

Then Abimelech took sheep, oxen and male and female servants and gave them to Abraham and he restored Sarah his wife to him. And Abimelech said, see, my land is before you, dwell where it pleases you – Genesis 20 : 14 – 15.

So Abraham prayed to God and God healed Abimelech, his wife and his female servants. Then they bore children, for the Lord had closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife – Genesis 20 : 17 – 18.

It’s high time if we have not done that to invite God fully into our life because He said, ”He is standing at the door and knocking, if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and he with Me – Revelation 3 : 20.‘ Are we ready to open our heart for Him to take full control of it? We should allow Him to take control of everything about us so that we can enter into His rest.

Everlasting King, I thank You for giving us a listening ear when You call us to Yourself. Lord, I invite You to take full control of our lives so that we can enter into Your rest and have peace of mind in every area of our lives in Jesus name.
