No matter the level God has taken us to, we should always try to be obedient children of God. Disobedience will always take us far from God and Jesus Christ has come to reconcile us and bring us close to God whether we like it or not God is closer to us more than we can imagine.

When the Lord your God brings you into the land which you go to possess and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Cannanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jabusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you and when the Lord your God delivers them over to you, you shall conquer them and utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them. Nor shall you make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to their son, nor take their daughter for your son. For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods, so the anger of the Lord will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly – Deuteronomy 7 : 1 : 4.

God knows the end from the beginning. He knows what is going to happen that was why He was giving this advice to guide the children of Israel.

And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished building the house of the Lord and the king’s house and all Solomon’s desire which he wanted to do, that the Lord appeared to Solomon the second time, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon. And the Lord said to him, I have heard your prayer and your supplication that you have made before Me, I have consecrated this house which you have built to put My name there forever and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually. Now if you walked before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you and if you keep My statutes and My judgments, then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised David your father, saying, you shall not fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.

But if you or your sons at all turn from following Me and do not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them, then I will cut off Israel from the land which I have given them and this house which I have consecrated for My name I will cast out of My sight. Israel will be a proverb and byword among all peoples. And as for this house, which is exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and will hiss and say, why has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house? Then they will answer, because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt and have embraced other gods and worshiped them and served them, therefore the Lord has brought all this calamity on them – 1 Kings 9 : 1 – 9.

During this second visit of God to Solomon, God tried to remind Solomon of His commandments which He has given to his fathers even before he (Solomon) was born so that he cannot say I was not aware of it. Despite he was the first to build the house for the Lord, that will not make the Lord not to respect His words because with God, ”there is no partiality” – Romans 2 : 11. He is only a respecter of those who obey His command. No matter the level which we try to please Him without respecting His command, His presence will never be noticed with those that disobey Him. He is not a wicked God but a faithful God who honor and respect His words.

But king Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharoah, women of Moabites, Amonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites from the nations of whom the Lord had said to the children of Israel, you shall not intermarry with them, nor they with you. Surely they will turn your hearts after their gods. Solomon clung to these in love. And he had seven hundred wives, princesses and three hundred concubines and his wives turned away his heart. For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David.

For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians and after Milcon the abomination of the Amonites. Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord and did not fully follow the Lord as did his father David. Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the hill that is east of Jerusalem and for Molech the abomination of the people of Ammon. And he did likewise for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

So the Lord became angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned from the Lord God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods, but he did not keep what the Lord had commended.

Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, because you have done this and have not kept My covenant  and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant. Nevertheless I will not do it in your days, for the sake of your father David, I will tear it out of the hand of your son. However I will not tear away the whole kingdom, I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of My servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem which I have chosen – I kings 11 : 1 – 13.

Solomon was richly blessed by God to the extent that people will come and listen to his words of wisdom but when it comes to obeying God who gave him the wisdom and all he needs, it became very difficult. No wonder Apostle Paul said in one of his letters to the church in Corinthians that, ”Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall – 1 Corinthians 10 : 12; Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry – 1 Corinthians 10 : 14”. David left a legacy before he died by obeying God’s instructions despite the fact that he was not a perfect man but he always recognized his weaknesses and he will always present it to God and plead that God should help him and the Lord will always come to his rescue. That dose not mean we have to always disobey God after which we go to him and plead for forgiveness but rather we should avoid being slaves to sins because Jesus Christ has come to redeemed us from sins.

My question now is what legacy are we leaving behind anywhere we are as king David did? My brethren, it is not too late we have to start obeying God’s instructions because we are covenant children. We should try to do our part of the covenant and see if He will not fulfill His part. There is no more time to waist brethren because tomorrow might be too late, Jesus is coming very soon. We should not allow anything to hold us back anymore.
