Then the Lord appeared to him by the terebinth trees of Mamre, as he was sitting in the tent door in the heart of the day. So he lifted his eyes and looked and behold, three men were standing by him and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the ground and said, My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant. Please let a little water be brought and wash your feet and rest yourselves under the tree. And I will bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh your hearts. After that you may pass by, inasmuch as you have come to your servant. They said, do as you have said – Genesis 18 : 1 – 5.

According to the scripture, Abraham did not know them and he ran to meet them. When he got to them, what did he do first, he bowed himself to the ground and said ” My Lord….”.  At times, when we are  not familiar with people, we don’t normally want to greet or even go close to people. Abraham did not say I am in my house so therefore I don’t have anything to do with these men. After runing to them, he bowed  himself  to the ground which is an act of humility that God is demanding fom us today. How many of us today can display such?

At times, we sing that ”Abraham’s blessings are mine” can we do what Abraham did that made him to recieve such blessings? One might say we are descendants of Abraham – yes, but we are suppose to have the same actitude like him because, like father like son. Abraham was not  proud, he did not say I will not go to them because I am in my house,  I don’t have anything to do with them. Abraham was after the help he can render to them and not after what he can gain from them. Many people today, before they can render any help, they will first and foremost think of the benefit they are going to get from the person that is why God does not speak to many people today.

Some might say Jesus Christ has come to redeem us- yes but God is still demanding from us today, such act of obedience because his mind spoke to him to go to the men. Abraham did not under-rate them. Today, we are use to valueing people with physical appearance, the quality of the clothes he put on, the type of car he is riding. I believe, we should change our way of thinking. ”Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels – Hebrews 13 : 2.”

Then they said to him, where is Sarah your wife? So he said, here, in the tent. And He said, I will certainly return to you according to the time of life and behold Sarah your wife shall have a son – Genesis 18 : 9 – 10. When we follow what God place in our mind, it will always lead to a great blessing which we have been looking for. Abraham recieved that which he has been expecting for many years.

Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, after I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also. And the Lord said to Abraham, why did Sarah laugh, saying shall I surely bear a child, since I am old? Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life and Sarah shall have a son. But Sarah denied it, saying, I did not laugh, for she was afraid. And He said, no, but you did laugh – Genesis 18 : 12 – 15.

Sarah laughed because the blessing was not how she expected it to come. How many times we do the same today? Because a blessing does not come how we expect it or when we expect it, make many people not to recognise the blessing of God. Sarah doubted because she was old which is normal but our blessing does not depend on our situation but rather it depend on God. When we pray, we should be expectant of the result, whether it delay or not because the scripture says ”For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it will speak and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it, because it will surely come, it will not tarry – Habakkuk 2 : 3”

Brethren, we should be on the watch and trust Him because He will never fail in His promises.

Lord, we thank You for being faithful to Your promises. Give us the grace to move whenever You want us to, so that, we can fulfil the purpose You created us and for our time not to be waisted here on earth in Jesus name.
